FAQs

Q. "Am I eligible for subsidy?"
A. Please refer to the official Child Care Subsidy Estimator website.

Q. "What is subsidy?"
A.
Subsidy is a monthly payment that helps families with low income meet the costs of child care.

Q. "Can I come and visit the child care centers anytime or do I need to make an appointment?"
A. We have an open door policy which allows anyone to visit at any time. Please feel free to drop in, our daily program will continue with visitors but if you come during circle time, please be prepared to join in and sing!

Q. "What are your hours of operation?"
A. We are open 6:30am - 6pm Monday - Friday year round. This will help accommodate our parents who work long hours and those who car pool or take public transportation. As you are paying for your child's spot and not per hour, please feel free to use the extra time after work to get your groceries, go to the gym or simply go home and put your feet up with a cup of tea. You will feel safe knowing that your child is happy and secure keeping busy with our qualified staff.

Q. "Are your staff qualified?"
A. Yes, all staff who work at Happy campers have their criminal record check, 1 st aid/CPR, a doctor's note stating that they are mentally & physically healthy to look after children, at least 20 hours of education relating to working with children and are over 19 years of age (all as regulated by VIHA). Some staff also have their class 4 or better driving license, Early Childhood Education, child counseling courses, child & youth care degree and their National Nursery Examination Board degree. All are expected and encouraged to continue their professional development on an ongoing basis. Our staff work together as a team and most of our staff have been with us for a long time. A high turn over in staffing is not what we want as the children need consistency with those who care for and play with them.

Q. "Do you provide meals?"
A. We provide a healthy daily snack for our after school children but for our 2 ½ - 5 year olds we ask that parents provide all food due to the high risk of children already having or developing allergies. Please do not send candy, gum, pop or other high sugar treats.
